VITAMINS

Vitamin C (Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate): 

THD is an L-ascorbic acid precursor with improved stability and ability to penetrate the epidermis. THD should be paired with other antioxidants to keep it stable within the skin as skin has a high oxidant environment.  THD is less irritating to the skin and so is a preferred ingredient over the traditional L-Ascorbic acid which is irritating and can exacerbate acne and other skin conditions.  A smaller amount is required for proven benefits, including, collagen synthesis, brightening the complexion, and protecting against free radical and MMP damage.

 

Vitamin C (3-0-Ethyl Ascorbate):

Ethyl ascorbic acid is also known as 3-O-ethyl-L-ascorbic acid. It combines the original vitamin C chemical structure and an ethyl group bound to the third carbon. This chemical variation makes ethyl ascorbic acid a highly stable vitamin C derivative, soluble in water and oil.

3-O-ethyl-L-ascorbic acid improves the molecules' stability and its transportation efficacy to the skin, being absorbed faster and better and is less irritating.  It has renowned brightening effects and will stimulate collagen production in the skin.  Like THD, it protects the skin from oxidation damage. 

 

PEPTIDES (Peptides are amino acids that are the building blocks of certain proteins needed by the skin, like collagen and elastin.)

ChroNOline™ is a biomimetic lipopeptide derived from a growth factor that boosts the production of key components at the dermoepidermal junction (DEJ) for maximal reduction in the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.  The DEJ maintains skin cohesion and supports skin metabolic needs for a young and healthy look. As we age, at the cellular level, we experience a decrease in epidermal thickness, combined with a flattening of the dermoepidermal junction (DEJ) which decreases the amount of nutrients available to the epidermis thus interfering with the skin's natural repair process.  This leads to a loss of elasticity, support and firmness, skin fragility and the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

The major components of the DEJ are:

  • Laminin-5: Anchors the epidermis to the dermis for structural support

Decorinyl™ is a synthesized tetrapeptide which mimics the sequences of decorin that bind to collagen fibrils. It has been shown to regulate fibrillogenesis and control fibril growth, improving firmness and elasticity of the skin, ensuring uniformity of fibril diameter and spacing of collagen fibrils. In effect, it replaces the non-functional decorin encountered as the skin ages, and also sustains a superior moisture profile.

 

Pep®-Elastyl (Palmitoyl Hexapeptide-12) with the concentration of Palmitoyl Hexapeptide-12 at 100ppm.  According to research, it can be used to improve the skin's water content, increase the thickness of the dermis, reduce microgrooves. The main effect is to increase the elasticity of skin, and increase skin thickness.

 

Progeline™ is a 3 amino acid peptide biomimetic of Elafin, an enzyme inhibitor involved in extracellular matrix integrity. 

Progerin is a senescence marker discovered through the understanding of Progeria, an accelerated aging condition in children.  Senescence is characterized by a build-up of progerin, a toxic protein which is critical for cellular activity (nucleus structure and DNA replication).  The accumulation of progerin causes nuclear defects and DNA damage, thus contributing to the appearance of signs of aging.  Present in fibroblasts and keratinocytes, progerin accumulates with time with higher levels occurring later in life.  Progerin expression is now used as a biomarker of cellular aging.  Progeline™ decreases progerin synthesis by acting directly on the senescence process to improve the signs associated with skin maturation: sagging, slacking and wrinkles.

In skin facial disorders with redness and dilated capillaries, like rosacea, LL-37 expression is found to be abnormally high as well as IL-6 and IL-8 levels. In that it has been found that the skin’s response to inflammation and experimental sunburn lesions results in the release and increase of several pro-inflammatory cytokines and chemokines, including IL-6 and IL-8, it can be said that LL-37 and skin disorders with erythema are linked. TelangynTM works to reduce the release of interleukins (IL-6 & IL-8) induced by 37-amino-acid peptide (LL-37).

PLANT EXTRACTS

Avena Satvia:  extracted from oats. Contains a variety of nutrients famous for nourishing the skin to be healthy, reducing allergies, irritation. It has benefits similar to beta glucan derived from oats.  Strong soothing and calming properties.

Bakuchiol:  An extract from the seeds of corylifolia Psoralea or Babchi for short.  Has anti-aging properties (collagen, elastin stimulation, cell differentiation, UV/UVB damage reversal) similar to retinol or Retin-A without the irritation or sensitivity associated with Retin-A's use. 

Kigelia Africana Fruit Extract:  Kigelia has been used for centuries in Africa for it's beneficial properties.  It is soothing, antioxidant which also contain natural steroids known to help a range of skin conditions, notably eczema, and the flavonoids have fungicidal properties. It contains anti-oxidants, including a bioflavonoid called quercetin which helps to extend the life of skin cells.  One of it's applications in cosmetics is for it's firming effect on skin.
